Sometimes when we want to lose weight, we think we could just skip a meal or two and we'll drop those pounds.
In theory, I suppose this makes sense and it probably even works—for a while. But eventually our body and brain catch up with each other and not only do we no longer lose weight by skipping a meal, we might actually gain weight. At least this is what happens with me.
There is a reason this happens... I am telling this to you from memory so please "bear" with me!
When we were cavemen, sometimes eating opportunities were scarce. In order to not die from starvation our bodies would go into a "starvation mode" when we missed too many calories during a period of time. Our bodies would store whatever we did eat as fat, so it could burn it later with the idea behind this that we would survive this time of no food or less food.
Well, we really aren't that far from our cavemen relatives, at least in this way... If you try to go on a starvation mode diet, you will not lose the weight you intended, at least not in a healthy way. Not to mention the fact that doing this sort of "dieting" does NOT teach you proper eating and nutrition. So, when you go back to "normal" eating (the kind you did before trying to cut out drastic amounts of calories) you will more than likely not only gain back what you lost, but will in some cases (like in my experience) gain back more than you lost!

Anyway, things were going pretty well, my clothes were getting bigger as I followed not only this eating plan, but also continued with my Beachbody 21 Day Fix workouts and my Shakeology shakes which provide me with the healthiest meal of the day. Things were going so well that I figured I could easily have a "cheat" day, especially since it wasn't a "BIG" cheat! I was just going to make my shake with milk instead of water. You cut out all dairy on the Whole30.
I hadn't had any dairy in 15 days. I thought everything would be okay. But boy was I ever wrong.
I got all bloated and funny feeling. Sick feeling. Gassy feeling. It wasn't fun! It wasn't enjoyable and it sure wasn't worth the cheat!
I am a great lover of dairy products, so this makes me sad. But it also makes me conscious of the fact that we truly are what we eat. Does this mean I will never eat dairy products again? No! Does it mean that I will be more thoughtful about what I eat and when? Yes!
I take my job as an Independent Beachbody Coach very seriously, and it all starts with me. I have to be living, breathing proof that I am doing all I can to better my health, fitness and wellness. As I have been studying and exploring nutrition, I am not even as focused on my weight! Because I know if I follow a healthful plan, the weight loss will follow and it has. Over the past eight months I have lost 40 pounds and kept it off! It hasn't been easy, but it has been worth it... I feel better (for the most part), my attitude and mood have been better and I am not tied to deadly prescriptions for type II diabetes.
Now that our Annual Be A Loser with Karin contest is over, I will be focusing more on my coaching and being able to offer you my encouragement and support in whatever way I can! It is all about health, Friends!~
