County Engineer Loren Fellbaum presented information to the board on a new material for melting ice on roadways called Thawrox. The public works department will be using it as a test on one route in the county. If it works out well, they will switch over to the material which, while costing more, is supposed to use less and work better than the salt mixture they have been using.

New Videos for this Week
"Newspapers' Place in History" shows how newspapers were produced in the past, using letterpress equipment. It also describes the important role newspapers play in democracy.
The DVD was shot at the Minnesota Newspaper Museum, located on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul. The museum funded by private donations is a working newspaper office as they were in the 1930s.
This is a snippet of the 15 minute documentary produced by the Minnesota Newspaper Foundation with a generous grant from the Minnesota Historical Society's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, made possible by the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution established in November of 2008.
To order a full-length DVD version, to donate to the operation of the museum or for more information contact Julie Bergman, julie@wiktel.com, 1004 20th Ave SE, East Grand Forks, MN 56721
