Cory Carr bags 11-pointer

Verndale Police Chief Cory Carr has been consistently bagging large bucks in the last few years and this year is no exception. Cory was hunting south of Verndale near Highway 210 around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, when he bagged an 11-point buck. The animal appeared about 150 yards away. Cory used his doe bleat and watched as the buck walked into the red willows. When it came out, Cory wasted little time bagging the animal from within 5 yards out. “I couldn’t see anything but fur in my scope,” he said. The beast weighed in at 190 pounds, and Cory says he’s planning a shoulder mount. —submitted photo

One-vehicle rollover

On Sunday evening, November 13, a Wadena County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a one vehicle rollover north of Staples on County Road 30, Section 24 of Thomastown Township.
Leighton Griffith, age 19, of Staples was traveling north when he lost control of his vehicle on a curve. The vehicle skidded out of control, crossed into the southbound lane and entered the southbound ditch. The vehicle hit an approach and rolled. Griffith had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to Lakewood Hospital in Staples with moderate, non-life threatening injuries.
The crash is under investigation. It is believed speed was a factor.
The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Staples Police Department, Staples Fire Department and Staples Ambulance Service.

WEATHER
  Verndale, Minnesota, weather forecast

This is Baby, she is a three year old minature pomeranian. Her owners are Cal and Cindy Wolf of Eagle Bend. Baby is "spoiled". She loves to ride motorcycle with Cal. She gets mad when she can not go with him, she lets him know when he returns. She does most of the charity rides. She also loves to sit in the window of the house and keep people in line that are to close the her property line. She is a big part of our family. Thanks for letting us share her story.
