November 21, 2007 Obituary Notices for the Week of November 21, 2007 Linda Smith Services were held on Sunday, November 18 for Linda Kaye Smith, 51, of Hazen, North Dakota, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Suelzle officiating. Linda passed away suddenly on November 14, 2007, at Sakakawea Medical Center in Hazen. Linda was born June 17, 1956, at the Hazen Hospital to Adolph and Violet (Neumann) Miller. She was raised on a farm seven miles northwest of Stanton and graduated from Stanton High School in 1974. She worked at the Social Services office in Stanton, from 1974 until 1983. Linda moved to Hazen following graduation and it was there that she met Craig Smith, formerly of Hewitt. They were married on September 4, 1982, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hazen. Linda served as a Sunday school teacher at St. Matthew for about 12 years. Linda loved to play softball and volleyball and when she got tired of playing the game, she coached both sports to stay involved. Her favorite place to spend time was in her garden. She loved her flowers and knew them very well. Linda was a wonderful mother and wife and made time to cook for her family and was a great baker. For the last five years, she had been working at Hazen School as a librarian aide and loved seeing the young people there. Linda was very kind-hearted and caring. One of Linda's most precious memories was the gift that she and Craig received for their 25th wedding anniversary, an Alaskan cruise, which they went on this past August. This gift was given to them by their children, Megan and her husband, Neil, Ryan and Jackson. Linda will be missed tremendously by her family, relatives and many, many friends. Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Violet Miller. She is survived by her husband, Craig, Hazen; one daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Neil Kramar, Huron Township, Michigan; two sons, Ryan, of Madison, Wisconsin, and Jackson, living at home; her father, Adolph Miller, Hazen; three sisters, Barbara and Jim Carlson, North Branch; Donna Bauer, Bismarck; and Sandra Pickerd, Erskine; and one brother, Duane and Arliss Miller, Blaine. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery Fund. Burial was in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hazen. Dorothy Claseman A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, November 16, 2007 at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie for Dorothy C. Claseman, 98 of Clarissa with Rev. Kenneth Riedemann officiating. Dorothy passed away Sunday at Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa. Dorothy C. Claseman was born September 29, 1909 in Long Prairie to Henry and Anna (Gothman) Strack. Dorothy attended country school in rural Todd County. She married Clement A. Claseman on June 3, 1929 in Long Prairie. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother. She was active in Christian Mothers Society, Relief Corp and loved to play bridge with her friends. For many years she volunteered at the Senior Center. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna; husband Clement; sister Marie Irsfeld; brother Louis Strack; granddaughter Karen Johnson; great-granddaughter Emily Gentholts. Dorothy is survived by three children, Doris (Jack) Falk of Little Falls; Alice (Dennis) Johnson of River Falls, WI; John (Mary) Claseman of Shoreview; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Casket bearers were John Falk, Gary Falk, Paul Claseman, Steven Claseman, Brian Claseman, Mark Johnson and David Johnson. Obituary, picture tribute and guest book online at www.steindingmann.com. Burial was in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Long Prairie. Gerald Kohout Gerald Harry Kohout, 61, of Eagle Bend passed away at Tri-County hospital on Tuesday, November 13, 2007. He was born to Harry and Viola Kohout in Rice County and was one of 9 children. He was raised on the family farm in Jordan. He served in the Marine Corps. as a young man. He was married to Mary Glatzel and had 6 children, Christine Pitt (Richard), Daniel Kohout, Debra Terrell, Rodney Kohout (Deanna), Tina Kohout (Sean Bolduc) and Stacy Austvold (Micheal). He was remarried to Lucy Kohout of Staples and had a daughter, Jennifer Kohout. He had 12 grandchildren and was preceded in death by one grandson. Gerald spent most of his life as a truck driver and a farmhand. His hobbies included playing cards, going to the casino, fishing and telling stories. He will be missed by all who knew him. |
