November 7, 2007 Obituary Notices for the Week of November 7, 2007 Elvin Seward Funeral services for Elvin Seward, 68, of Eagle Bend and formerly of Alexandria, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Bend with Reverend Chad Czischke presiding. Elvin passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, November 3, in Hubbard County. Elvin Richard Seward was born on July 11, 1939 at Starbuck, to Elmer and Mildred Seward. He was united in marriage with Corliss Nelson on October 31, 1959 at the First Methodist Church of Osakis. They moved to Eagle Bend in 1969 and he worked until his retirement at Land O' Lakes in Browerville. Elvin served his country in the National Guard from June 1956 until June 1962. He served his community as a member of the Eagle Bend Fire Department for 21 years; the Eagle Bend Lions Club for 10 years; Eagle Bend City Council serving as Mayor for 1 year; Immanuel Lutheran Church Council, also serving as president; and as a community volunteer. He enjoyed tractor collecting and spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, camping and 4-wheeling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Elvin was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Mildred Seward and brother Darrel Seward. He is survived by his wife Corliss (Nelson) Seward; sons Rick (Patti) of Little Falls, Todd (Colleen) of Little Falls and Wayne (Carmen) of Sauk Rapids; daughter Twila Pierce of Eagle Bend; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; brother Rod (Jan) Seward of Carlos and sister Bonnie (Brad) Jeitz of Hancock. He is also survived by mother-in-law Ruby Nelson of Miltona; brother-in-law Kerry (Linda) Nelson of Carlos and sister-in-law Cheryl (Curt) Schimmelpfennig of Alexandria; his aunt Lillian Johnson of Wadena; 7 nieces and 2 nephews; and many cousins. Honorary pallbearers will be Lesley Pierce, Lacey Pierce, Travis Seward, John Nelson, Kevin Hess and Corbin Bailey. Pallbearers will be Dustin Seward, Nicholas Seward, Korby Seward, Jake Seward, Jason Seward and Michael Seward. Interment will be in the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Helen Anderson Funeral services for Helen Anderson were held on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at the Domian-Anderson Funeral Home in Bertha. Helen passed away on Sunday, October 28 at the Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena at the age of 92 years. Helen Genevieve Anderson was born on March 7, 1915 in Freiberg Township, Otter Tail County to Charles and Anna (Olson) Johnson. She was united in marriage with Raymond Curtis Anderson in Hewitt on August 6, 1934. Together they farmed and raised their children on the Anderson family farm located west of Hewitt. Helen enjoyed spending time outdoors in her flower gardens, cooking for family and friends and shopping with her granddaughters. She also enjoyed driving and going on trips. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Raymond in 1990; parents Charles and Anna Johnson; daughter Sylvia Maves in 2003; great-great grandson Cooper Kapphahn; sister Evelyn Rohwer; and brothers Laurel Johnson and Everett Johnson. She is survived by her sons David (Ardith) of Ottertail, Charles (Mary Ann) of Hewitt and Bruce (Gloria) of Deer Creek; 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; brothers Clinton Johnson of Eagle Bend, Donald Johnson of Eagle Bend and Carroll Johnson of Eagle Bend; and sisters Violet Smith of Becker, Evangeline Otto of Williams and Maxine Miller of Hewitt. Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Tindal, Joe Lange, Aaron Mockros, Gene Roller, Gary Tindal, Dan McCullough and Bob Suffrins. Pallbearers were Kevin Anderson, Douglas Anderson, Steve Lorentz, Greg Anderson, Mike Anderson and Mark Lorentz. Interment was in the Oak Valley Cemetery located west of Hewitt. Ruth Ostlund Funeral services were held for Ruth Elizabeth Ostlund, 89, of Clarissa, on November 3, at the Iten Funeral Home in Clarissa with the Rev. Denny Johnson officiating. Ruth passed away on Thursday, November 1 at the Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa. Ruth was born on February 11, 1918 in Fergus Falls to Francis and Ruth (Nelson) Ostlund. When Ruth was a child, her family moved to a farm near Tioga, North Dakota, where she attended public school through the ninth grade. Ruth then went to work in retail sales until she bought and operated a bakery in Tioga. After her father's death, Ruth and her mother moved to Fargo where Ruth managed a Stop-N-Go convenience store. After several years in Fargo, they moved to Ellendale, North Dakota, where Ruth worked for her brother Vernon at Ellendale Plumbing and Heating. In the early 1980s, Ruth retired and moved to Buffalo and lived there until she moved to Clarissa in 2004. Ruth liked to embroider, make quilts and garden. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Francis Jr.; sister Eunice; and one niece, Marilyn. Ruth is survived by her two sisters, Eunice (Don) Nelson of Clarissa and Genevieve Johnson of Motley; three brothers, Franklyn Ostlund of Minot, ND, Sanfred (Donna) Ostlund of West Fargo, ND; Vernon (Helen) Ostlund of Buffalo; 14 nieces and nephews; 29 grand-nieces and nephews; one great-grand-niece and one great-grand nephew. Internment was held at the United Cemetery in Tioga, ND. |
