Virgie Walker
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on October 5 for Virgie Walker,
85, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria with Father Steve
Binsfeld officiating. Virgie passed away on Tuesday, October
2, 2007.
Virgie (Schwantz) Walker, was born on October 26, 1921, in Bertha
to William and Anna Schwantz. She graduated from Bertha High
School and then furthered her education at St. Cloud State Teachers
College and graduated in June of 1940 at the age of 19. She
taught country school in the Bertha area for three years and
just loved teaching.
Virgie then moved to Seattle and worked in the Navy yards building
ships. She married Claire C. (Happy) Walker in Seattle on July
17, 1944. They had dated for a long time, and married when he
was discharged from the Army.
Virgie and Happy moved back to Minneapolis and lived there for
twenty years. The couple had three children: Diane in 1947,
Chuck in 1951 and Joanne in 1956. During her time in Minneapolis
she worked as one of the first computer programmers for Northwestern
National Life. She also taught school at Our Lady of Victory
School for three years.
In 1962, the whole family moved to Alexandria to be closer to
Happy and her brothers, sisters and parents. Virgie lived in
Alexandria until her death.
Virgie enjoyed living. She loved playing the piano, accordion,
needlepoint, reading, fishing and Bingo at Clearwater Suites.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claire Walker; parents
William and Anna Schwantz; brothers, Floyd and Leslie; and sister-in-law,
Mary Schwantz.
She is survived by her three children Diane McIntire, Chuck
and Lucy Walker, Joanne and Kim Srock; eight grandchildren, four
great-grandchildren; sister, Theresa; brothers: Alvin
and William (Billy).
Honorary Pallbearers were her granddaughters: Amber Pazdernik
and Katie Swanson. Pallbearers were her grandsons: Christopher
Walker, Paul Walker, Kelly Srock, Joel Srock, Patrick McIntire
and Michael McIntire.
Burial was at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Bertha.

Funeral services will be held on October 13, 2007, at 11 a.m.,
at the Patson-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre for Dorothy D.
Taylor, age 60 of Bertha, with the Rev. James Statz officiating.
Dorothy passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday,
October 6, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
Dorothy was born November 2, 1946 in Glenwood to Arthur and
Delores (Jung) Rost. On June 29, 1968 she married Robert Taylor
at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Saint Paul. She worked for
St. Paul Public Schools for 12 years and was also a ceramics
teacher for St. Paul Community Education for six years. The couple
moved to their home on Sauk Lake, near Sauk Centre, in 1990.
She was a home health aid for St. Michael's Hospital and then
worked as a coordinator for the REM Home in Osakis. For the past
year she had resided in Bertha. She was lovingly cared for by
her daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Kelly Grant, for the past
eight years.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church,
Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853 Auxiliary, and American Legion Post
67 Auxiliary, and was a volunteer at the Clarissa Care Center.
Dorothy loved her grandkids, her dog, Chase, enjoyed ceramics
and crafts, and was known for her great sense of humor. Her family
is grateful for the special friendship of her cousin, Sharon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Robert
Taylor, who died on January 9, 1999.
Survivors include her children, Michele (Pat) Kabat of Newport,
Dawn (Kelly) Grant of Bertha, Kenneth (Sheri) Taylor of West
St. Paul, Denise (Jason) Springer of Litchfield; step-daughter,
Joan (Michael) Bethke of North St. Paul; 12 grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Leonard (Judy) Rost
of Alexandria, Richard (Mary) Rost of Villard, Jeannie Alphors
of New London and Terry (Paul) Hielle of Sauk Centre; several
nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Clarissa
Care Center.
Internment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
