October 17, 2007 Small town venture by Marlo Benning
When Jeremy Schaefer first pondered the idea of opening a computer store, he was looking towards Wadena as its location. With the high price of gas, he thought that it may be more convenient for potential customers if he were located in the more rural setting of Bertha. This is just one of the reasons that he chose Bertha to start up his business which is named Jeremungo Computers. He also lives in Bertha which makes it more convenient for him as well. "I'm hoping the community will back me on this," Schaefer said of his decision. He has high hopes for Jeremungo's which opened about two months ago on the east side of main street. His business is a "one man show" for now until his clientele base picks up, although he has some help from his 11-year-old son, Thomas. Schaefer has 11 years of experience dealing with computers and has done work out of his home in the past. He is self-taught and is able to keep up to date on the newest products and software by being involved in programs such as the Microsoft Partner Program. Schaefer said, "One thing I like about this business is I'm always learning. It keeps me busy and I like a challenge." He sells computers and services them, does upgrades and refurbishes computer systems to sell. He offers a two year warranty on his refurbished computers. A unique service that he offers is to take in old computers to be recycled and guarantees the owner's privacy. This is free of charge. He prefers to have computers that need repair to be dropped off at his location, but will drive to your location to set up systems as part of his computer sales. Schaefer is confident in the job he does and stands behind it. "I guarantee my work," he said. The main thing he stressed is that he will always try to be fair about his prices. He works on all computers with the exception of Apples, but he is able to send Apple computers to a technician for repair. He has slowly begun to gain inventory such as computer drives, memory and cables and is able to get parts "the next day". His store hours are Monday through Friday from 10 to 6, Saturdays from 11 to 5 and Sundays by appointment. He can be reached at his store phone at 218-924-3496 (FIXM). marlo@inhnews.com |
