Coach Bright earns 500th win

Coach Janelle Bright earned her 500th win in the game on Monday, October 15 against Battle Lake. Surrounded by her players and volleyball fans, Bright was given some special gifts to commemorate the event.
She has been the head volleyball coach for Bertha-Hewitt for 26 years. Her record stood at 500 wins, 160 losses and 28 ties when she hit her 500th win. Coach Bright's teams have done well in the past 26 years. In the Park Region Conference they tied for first place in 1984 and 1991. They were conference champs in 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and took second place this year. They have been District/Sub-Section Champs several years also. In 1984 and 1991 they were district champs. Then when the system changed to sub-sections, they were champions in 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006. Her teams have also been section champions in 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2006. These teams went on to the state tournaments. In 2002, her team placed third in the state tournament.
