Obituary Notices for the Week of September 19, 2007


Shirley Woodworth
Funeral services for Shirley Woodworth, 89, were held on Friday, September 14, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Eagle Bend with Reverend Mary Carol Strug and Reverend Cordell Strug presiding.
Shirley passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at the St. William's Living Center in Parkers Prairie.
Shirley Mae Woodworth was born on March 8, 1918 at Venus, Nebraska to Merwin and Octavia (Anson) Strope. She was united in marriage with Irvin George Woodworth on February 7, 1938 at Brazil Mills, Nebraska. Together they farmed in Nebraska before moving to a dairy farm east of Parkers Prairie in 1957. She has been a part of the Eagle Bend community for 34 years and was a member of the Homemakers Club and Ladies Aid. She enjoyed dancing and reading as well as playing cards and spending time with her family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Irvin on March 2, 1982; parents Merwin and Octavia; infant daughter Phyllis; 2 granddaughters and 1 great-granddaughter; and brothers Charles Strope, Vernon Strope and Merwin Strope, Jr..
She is survived by her sons Larry (Carmen) of Clarissa, Phil (Linda) of Texas, Dennis (Christina) of Missouri and Irvin, Jr. (LaRae) of Parkers Prairie; daughters Carolyn Miller and Linda (Bob) Sudbeck, both of Eagle Bend; 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; and sister Delores Darr of Glenwood.
Honorary pallbearers were Shirley's grandchildren. Pallbearers were Maria Pooler, Ron Miller, Tim Miller, Greg Woodworth, Tony Woodworth, Mike Sudbeck, Rian Sudbeck and Stacie Woodworth.
Interment was in the Hope Cemetery in Eagle Bend.



Lydia Massey
Funeral services were held for Lydia Massey, age 96, of Verndale, on Saturday, September 8, at the Gordon Denny residence in rural Verndale, with Pastor Julie Sutton-Deen presiding. Lydia, formerly of Clever, Missouri passed away September 4, 2007 at her home.
She was born October 27, 1910 to William and Elva (Mohler) Thompson in Spink County, South Dakota. Lydia was united in marriage to Jonah Calvin Massey.
She lived on a farm in Verndale for 10 years and moved to Missouri where she resided for over 30 years, returning to Verndale for the past 7 years. At one time Lydia was a cook and owner of a restaurant in Alaska.
Lydia was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Johnny Denny; and sister, Jean Finkle.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Bonnie) Denny, four grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Interment was held at Wise Hill Cemetery in Clever, Missouri.

Lyle Stork

There will be a memorial service for Lyle Stork on Sunday, September 23 at 2 p.m. at the Faith United Church of Christ in Bertha.


Inez Carlson
A memorial gathering was held on Monday, September 17, for Inez J. Carlson, 75, of St. Paul Park, who passed away on Wednesday afternoon, September 12, at her home surrounded by family following a lengthy illness.
Inez J. Carlson was born March 26, 1932, the daughter of Norman R. and Vera V. (Stienka) Johnson. She was united in marriage to Roy E. Carlson on June 23, 1952 in Eagle Bend. The couple had made their home in St. Paul Park for many years where Inez had specialized in child care. She especially enjoyed the outdoors, nature, trees and tending her flowers and vegetables.
She was preceded in death by husband, Roy and brother, Eugene Johnson.
Inez is survived by her children; Eric and his wife, Connie of Cottage Grove; Lance and his wife, Mary of Austin, Texas; Ross and his wife, Kari; Sonja and her husband, John Morgan all of St. Paul Park; her sister, Carol and her husband, Paul Koch of Richfield and her brother, Richard and his wife, Bonnie Johnson of Eagle Bend, also by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 21, at the Hope Cemetery in Eagle Bend.


Isabella Swanson
The funeral mass for Isabella Swanson was held on Thursday, September 13, at St. John Vianney Church in Round Prairie, with Father Michael Johnson as celebrant. Isabella Margaret Swanson was born July 29, 2007 to Anthony and Monica (Schaefer) Swanson at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena. She was baptized on September 8, 2007, at St. John Vianney Church in Round Prairie. She passed away on September 9, 2007 at the age of 6 weeks, at Tri-County Hospital.
Isabella was preceded in death by great grandparents Earl and Margaret "Lucille" Swanson, Perry and Alice Kern, and Ed and Deloris Schaefer. She is survived by her parents; brothers, Ethan and Garrett Swanson; sisters, Vanessa Schaefer, Hope and Alycyn Swanson; grandparents, Dale and Karen Schaefer, and Jim Swanson; aunts and uncles, Jill (Grant) Johnson, Heidi (Bob) Malone, Mike Schaefer, Tim Schaefer, and Faith Schaefer; cousins, Taylor, Jake, Sam, Katie, Jasmine and Morgan.
Honorary Pallbearers were Hope, Garrett and Alycyn Swanson. Active Pallbearers were Vanessa Schaefer and Ethan Swanson.
Interment was held at Calvary Cemetery in Wadena.
