January 9, 2008 Bertha-Hewitt boys win big, 76-30 by Coach Dale Finck
BerthaHewitt Boys jumped back on track after the winter break with a 76 30 win over the Henning Hornets. With this win the Bears improved to 7-0 and 2-0 in the Park Region Conference. On Friday night, the Hornets came to town for conference play. The Bears game plan was to play half-court solid defense making the Hornets work for absolutely everything on their offensive end. We did just that as it took 6 minutes for the Hornets to get to the foul line and make a free throw and 9 minutes for them to make their first field goal. On the offensive end we took control by shooting incredibly well. We shot 62.5% from the three point line in the first half knocking down 8 in the half. From closer in the Bears hit 61.5% from the 2 point field goals and shot 100% from the free throw line. The combination put the Bears out to a 23 3 lead with 10 minutes left in the half and a 37 11 halftime lead. In the second half, the Bears continued to play solid man defense making it difficult for the Hornets to mount a comeback. Schuller and Byland lead the Bears bench attack by tossing in season highs for both players. Byland scored 7 points while Schuller added 6 points. Riewer and Denny lead the team with some solid game totals. The duo shot 9-12 from behind the arch, scored 17 and 15 points respectfully and added 5 assists each. The Bears were in complete control throughout the game didn't loose focus. The final score was 76-30. We had 11 players score and played team basketball throughout the game. The Bears will continue conference play hosting Pillager Tuesday night and then traveling to Menahga on Friday night. Vs.
