Browerville 36, Royalton 27
The Browerville girls basketball team returned from Christmas break with a game against the Royalton Royals. Both teams struggled for most of the game. Lots of turnovers and missed shots made it look like neither team had played a basketball game in a while. Each team spent much of the first half turning the ball over to the other. The Tigers took very few shots, instead they succumbed to the Royals pressure defense. In fact, the Tigers made only 3 shots the entire half with the rest of their 14 points coming from the free throw line. Thankfully our defense was quite good. We got some good play off the bench.
The Tigers got a bit better in the second half. Each team traded baskets to start the half before the Tigers extended the lead to 8 points. The Royals made a run to get within 2 points with about 6 minutes left. The Tigers responded with a run of their own. Britta Irsfeld (12 points), Lindsey Duncan (8 points), and some good minutes from Stacia Pearson led the way. Although it was ugly, the Tigers were happy to move to 4-1 in the Prairie Conference.
