Bertha residents: Join the "community" club, it's for everyone
by Marlo Benning

In some small communities, commercial clubs have been in existence for many years. They've focused on bettering their community in various ways and its members consist mainly of business owners.
In modern times, at least in Bertha, the commercial club has sponsored and carried out events that take place throughout the year in the city. They've also give financial contributions to individuals who carry out activities within the city. Its members volunteer to help out at events to make them successful.
At the last Bertha Commercial Club meeting it was approved to change the name of the club to the Bertha Community Club. The main purpose of the club will remain the same. The only difference? Anyone who wants to become a member will be welcomed with open arms. Also businesses can choose to sponsor a person who wants to become a member.
If you aren't sure exactly what the club does, read on for a few examples:
Organize, plan and carry out Dairyland Days in July.
Provide a free pancake and sausage feed for the community on Maundy Thursday during the Easter season.
Give donations to the Parade of Lights committee for putting on the event.
Orchestrate details for Santa's visit in December to the community center.
Donate towards the free community Thanksgiving meal.
Sponsor the city's parade float and provides drivers for area parades.
If you would like to be a part of the community club or have ideas that you would like to share for the future, please feel free to come to the next meeting on Monday, March 17. The meeting time and place have now changed to 12 p.m. at Seven Oaks Express.
The club typically meets on the third Monday of each month with the exception of July, August, December, January and February.
The more people involved, the better job that the club can do in putting on events and supporting others in their endeavors.
