Melvin Kent

Funeral services for Melvin Kent, 85, of Clarissa, will be held on Saturday February 4, at 4 p.m., at the Iten Funeral Home in Browerville with Chaplain Christopher Hill officiating. Friends may call at the Iten Funeral Home in Browerville from 2-4 p.m., on the day of the service. A lunch will immediately follow at the Browerville Community Center. Melvin passed away on January 17, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud.
Melvin served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. In 1960 he married Ruth Warneka in St. Louis, Missouri. Melvin worked for Thermal Gas in Iowa for 25 years. He and Ruth moved to Minnesota where he began farming and also worked for Surge and DeLaval. Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, working on his junk and going to auctions. He was a member of the Lions and American Legion in Clarissa.
Melvin is preceded in death by his sons, Jim and Mikel Kent; parents, Obra and Olive Kent; brother Owel Leroy Kent; sister Opal Duffield; grandson James Camancho; sister-in-law Shirley Hutchins; brothers-in-law, Bill Hutchins, Glen Wolfgram, Arden Dempewolf, Orlan Klopp and John Duffield.
Melvin is survived by his wife Ruth Kent of rural Clarissa; daughters Vicky Ann Clemmons of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Barbara Jean Kent of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Debbie (Greg) Ostrowski of Browerville; sons Bernard (Tracey) Kent of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jeff (Penny) Kent of Browerville; sister Ruby Klopp of Davenport, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
Interment will be held at the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery, Little Falls.

Carl Togstad

Graveside services for Carl Togstad, 92, of Clarissa, formerly of Osakis, were held on Friday, January 27 at the Sauk Valley Lutheran Church Cemetery with Reverend Steve Hilde officiating. Carl passed away on Wednesday morning, January 25, 2012 at the Lakewood Hospital in Staples.
Carl Marius Togstad was born on March 22, 1919 in West Union, to Odin and Sophie (Hofstad) Togstad. He attended country school in Todd County. He served his country during WWII as a private in the Army. He was part of the Company D Tank Division, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to Minnesota and went to work as a farm hand for area farmers.
He was married to Judy Hokison, who passed away in 1971. Carl worked for many years at the Jack Bican farm near Clarissa. Carl had most recently been a resident at the Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Leonard, Evald, Manfred, (Sigvald) Oliver and Oscar Togstad; and his sisters, Salina Huber, Borghild Jern, Hilda Kleven, Hattie Spiegelberg and Marie Fischer.
He is survived by one sister, Norma Danielson of Los Angeles, California; several nieces and nephews; and his friend and employer, Jack Bican of Clarissa.

Glenn Johnson

Funeral services for Glenn Johnson, 97, of Slayton will be held at a later time in Bertha. Glenn passed away at the Golden Living Center in Slayton on Sunday, January 29, 2012.
