The Verndale Municipal Liquor Store is celebrating its 90th Anniversary on April 15. 

Locals know it as the Muni. The establishment itself is much older but has stood the test of time as a city-owned liquor store.

In June of 1878, the Farwell family purchased 40 acres of land. As Verndale grew, the Farwells sold off individual lots.

Elisabeth L. purchased the lot that houses the Muni. After her death, a year later, on July 6, 1882, the property was transferred to Cecelia Thomas. 

In 1886, Thomas sold the property to David and Lettie Stevenson. David “Doc” Stevenson was the town’s first barber....
