On August 21, at 4:32 p.m., the Todd County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) received a 911 call of a deceased male at a rural Long Prairie residence. The reporting party went to the residence to check on a friend who had not returned phone calls or texts since August 20.

Todd County deputies arrived on the scene and upon checking the residence, two adults were found deceased under suspicious circumstances.

The scene is being processed by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

In the course of the investigation, investigators identified a suspect as Dylan John Bennett, 22. Bennett was believed to be driving a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe, blue in color, bearing Minnesota license plate number BCK 487. Based on information gathered during the investigation it was determined that there was no threat to public safety at that time.

Todd County Sheriff Steve Och held a press conference at the sheriff’s office at 3:30 p.m. on August 22.

“Based on our investigation thus far we consider their deaths to be suspicious,” said Och.

The TCSO was attempting to locate Dylan.

Dylan did reside at the home where the deaths took place. He  has had run-ins with the law in the past.

“We are still gathering facts, but in the course of our investigation we believe he has left Minnesota,” said Och.

There were no witnesses.

On August 23, the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office identified the two deceased adults as Barry Martin Bennett, 63, and Carol Ann Bennett, 63, of 22047 Ginseng Road in Long Prairie. . . .
