Two found dead in rural Long Prairie identified as Barry and Carol Bennett

Update from the Todd County Sheriff's Office

The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause and manner of death for Barry and Carol Bennett who were found deceased in their Long Prairie home earlier this week.

 

Barry Bennett, 63, and Carol Bennett, 63 (corrected age), died of homicide due to gunshot wounds.

 

A criminal complaint/arrest warrant has been issued for Dylan John Bennett, 22. Anyone with information on Dylan’s whereabouts is urged to call the Todd County Sheriff’s Office or dial 911.

 

The Todd County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in its investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the FBI and the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force.

Update from Todd County Sheriff's Office

 

The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office has identified two persons found deceased in their Long Prairie home on Wednesday, August 21st. They have been identified as Barry Martin Bennett, 63, and Carol Ann Bennett, 66, of 22047 Ginseng Road in Long Prairie. We are awaiting word on their cause and manner of death. Investigators are seeking the public's assistance in locating Dylan John Bennett, age 22. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call the Todd County Sheriff's Office or dial 911.

 

In addition, investigators have located the vehicle sought in connection with Dylan Bennett outside of Minnesota. For investigative purposes the location is not being disclosed at this time. The Todd County Sheriff's Office is being assisted in its investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the FBI, and the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force.

Suspicious death update

Suspect fled the state

 

 

Todd County Sheriff Steve Och held a press conference at the sheriff’s office at 3:30 p.m. on August 22.

“I will answer what questions I can. Please understand we’re in the early stages of our investigation,” said Och.

On August 21, the TCSO received a phone call of a deceased male at a rural Long Prairie residence. They found two deceased individuals inside the home. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy today to determine the cause and manner of death. 

“Based on our investigation thus far we consider their deaths to be suspicious,” said Och.

The TCSO is attempting to locate the suspect, Dylan John Bennett, 22, believed to be driving a blue Hyundai Santa Fe. 

“We do not believe there  is an ongoing threat to public safety,” said Och. 

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the West Central Violent Offenders Task Force and the FBI are assisting on the case. 

The names of the victims will be released when the autopsy is complete and family has been notified.

“We urge anyone from the public who has seen Dylan or his vehicle to contact 911,” said Och.

They are not saying the relationship between Dylan and the deceased. He did reside at the home where the deaths took place. And cannot discuss the crime scene. Dylan has had run ins with the law in the past. It is believed he has left the state. 

“We are still gathering facts, but in the course of our investigation we believe he has left Minnesota,” said Och.  

There were no witnesses. 

Earlier Press Release:

On August 21, at 4:32 p.m., the Todd County Sheriff’s Office  received a 911 call of a deceased male at a rural Long Prairie residence. The reporting party went to the residence to check on a friend who had not returned phone calls or texts sine August 20. 

Todd County Deputies arrived on the scene and upon checking the residence, two adults were found deceased under suspicious circumstances.

The scene is being processed by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The names of the deceased will be released upon notification of family members.

In the course of the investigation. Investigators identified a suspect as Dylan John Bennett, DOB 11-22-1996. Bennett is believed to be driving a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe blue in color bearing Minnesota license plate number BCK 487. Based on information gathered during the investigation it is determined that there is no threat to public safety at this time.

The Todd County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force.
