Ervasti first ever female 132 pound state champion, Umland on Olympic prep team

    Matt Umland flew to Salt Lake City, Utah with Coach Jeremy Umland to compete in the 2017 National Boxing Tournament. He fought in the Youth 132 lb. division.  Matt was ranked as the number one seed in his division. 

     Along with his father, Jeremy Umland, he was assisted by Olympic Silver Medalist and multiple time world middle-weight champion, Virgil Hill, along with a national level coach from North Dakota.  

    His division also served as the 2020 Olympic Trials.  He made it through the quarter finals, but unfortunately lost due to referee stoppage in the third round because his right eye was swelling shut.  

    “I was really impressed with the amount of school and community support for him,” said Jeremy.

     Matt is on the prep team for the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Team. He would help the Olympians prepare. It is a huge step to becoming an Olympian.  

    Matt was asked if he was interested in competing in the international prep team. He was invited to the Western Qualifier in Albuquerque,  New Mexico, during the first week in March; West Virginia in March, Tennessee in October and Utah next December. He is currently ranked within the top 10 boxers in the nation for his division...
