Fire claims barn and livestock

According to the Eagle Bend Fire Department, on August 23, at approximately 4:30 p.m., they were called out to a barn fire on 344th Street with mutual aid from the Clarissa Fire Department. Upon arrival the barn was fully engulfed in flames. They called for manpower from the Browerville and Bertha Fire Departments. The Bertha Ambulance was dispatched to aid in rehab for the heat stress. With permission of the owner, Chrissie Miller, Korblick’s Excavating was called to assist in moving hay and debris. Several milking goats perished in the fire. The Eagle Bend Fire Department remained at the scene until approximately 8:30 p.m. The cause is believed to be a spark from a gas engine. On February 24, 2016 a barn fire at the same location claimed the lives of several dozen head of livestock.
