Fire damages motel

The ringing of their doorbell at 4:30 a.m. on August 3 was the first indication to Browerville Motel/Knotty Pine owners Blake Dixon and his wife that there was anything wrong. Dixon said that the doorbell on the motel office is connected to the “vacancy” sign which appears to have shorted out and started a fire. The Dixons make their home in the back part of the building. The fire and smoke damage was confined to the office area, although some smoke smell is in the living area, according to the Dixons. The Browerville and Long Prairie Fire Departments were on the scene. They are without electricity as the power had to be turned off until things get squared away.
