Auction tradition is a strong one

“It’s a lot of work and it takes an army to do it,” said 38-year-veteran Verndale Fire Department Dan Fisher of the department’s annual springtime auction.

Despite the large amount of effort it takes to put it on each year, it is a tradition that has stood the test of time—25 years to be exact!

He attributes the beginning of the auction to former fireman Jim Carr who shared the idea at a meeting of carrying out a consignment auction as a fundraiser.

“Back then, [Verndale] Custom Homes was in business. The first year they brought us lumber and plumbing materials. That really got us going on the right foot....and the rest is history,” noted Fisher.
