The National High School Athletic Coaches Association named seven Minnesota coaches as finalists for the Coach of the Year awards.
Two of those coaches include Mike Mahlen, Verndale football coach and Wendy DeVorak Kohler, Alexandria girls basketball coach. Both are one of eight finalists in their sport.
The NHSACA recognizes coaches for their lifetime achievements. The Coach of the Year awards are the most prestigious awards given to high school coaches in America in 19 sports categories. . . .
