A patriotic memorial for Bob

There isn’t much that can be considered more patriotic than a giant eagle and an American flag carved into wood.

Marilyn Neuerburg of Verndale wanted to find a way to honor her late husband, Bob, who passed away on October 23, 2018.

Bob served in the Navy Seabees and deployed to Vietnam in 1968 and 1969 where he was exposed to Agent Orange.

“It was rough for him the last few years,” said Marilyn.

She said he rarely spoke of his time in Vietnam to her or their children. She appreciated the VA taking care of Bob as the Agent Orange took over and caused many health issues before it took his life.

Agent Orange was a herbicide used by the military to clear plants and trees in and around the Korean Demilitarized Zone. The name Agent Orange came from the orange stripe on the 55-gallon drums in which it was stored. Exposure to Agent Orange has been linked to several diseases including heart disease, diabetes, and several cancers....
