March 15, 1995

“Three Times Lucky” was the name of the scratch off game and Steve Warren hit the jackpot when he scratched off a $1000 winner that he had purchased at Moen Oil in Clarissa.

Fifty-eight Eagle Valley Elementary students raised $1589 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Students obtained pledges for the math problems that they did. All who participated received a certificate. Those raising $30 or more also received a t-shirt. If they collected $75 or more they received a sports bag, too.


50 Years Ago

March 12, 1970

A fire of unknown origin destroyed a barn, some hogs, and about 2000 bales of hay at a Clarissa community farm last Saturday. The Clarissa Fire Department was called to the Arnold Rach farm, about two miles southeast of Clarissa at 1:30 p.m. The farm is now occupied by the Ralph Ritter family.

Last Saturday was “Buy a Flag Day” in Clarissa when Sons of the American Legion sold American flags on Clarissa’s Main Street and urged people to fly the Stars and Stripes at their homes on the holidays. Pictured on Main Street were Gene Lindquist, Minnesota National Committeeman of the legion; his son Sven, who has been a member of the Sons of the American Legion since he was an infant: Kent Watts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Watts, who is a squadron commander of the young group; Ray Peterson, local commander of the Legion, and Mayor Harlan Dixon.
