The Clarissa Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the best of three in the playoffs with Detroit Lakes last Sunday night with a big 21-8 win. The game was delayed over an hour by a 25 minute thunderstorm, which left the field looking like a place to fish instead of play ball, but the players along with the help of Keith Hinzmann, Larry Dickinson, Rick Busch and Dale Greenwaldt, whipped the place into playable shape. Deron Greenwaldt, Joe Cuchna, Paul Johnson and Mark Burns all had two hits apiece. Greenwaldt led off the game with a solo homerun.
Beth Blombeck, daughter of Gary and Brenda Blombeck of Eagle Bend, and Susie Hayes, daughter of Spencer and Chris Hayes of Clarissa, participated in a Blazer Basketball Camp at the College of Saint Benedict. The camp, for girls in 9-12 grade, offered training in ball handling, shooting instructions and offensive and defensive fundamentals.
