Keeping food on our tables

Volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, churches and lifestyles come to dedicate 10 or more hours to make these events a success. The volunteers arrive two or more hours before the events begin to set up and get everything ready to make it as smooth of a process as possible. “We are better together,” as Pastor Eric Monson would say.

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”—Matthew 4:4 from the NIV Bible While we may not be able to live on bread alone, having something to eat is a vital part of life.

Pastor of the Eagle Bend Assembly of God Church Eric Monson talked to one of the volunteers about setup of the Produce Drop, the first of which took place at the church on Friday, April 24.

It could be said that bread sustains the body while the word of God sustains the spirit. When you combine both through the generous work of the church and multiple volunteers, you have a solution that helps feed hundreds of households each week. Two programs that are run locally through the Eagle Bend Assembly of God Church are the Living Bread Pantry which has been operating for the last five years and the Produce Drop which ran last summer and has started again this past weekend. According to Pastor Eric Monson both of these are separate programs that the church runs. To help clear any confusion about the two programs, Monson spoke to the particulars of each. The Living Bread Pantry will be run every other week. This program has a cost of $20 per share. You can find out more about this particular program on Facebook on the Living Bread Food Distribution page. The Produce Drop is a separate program run through the federal government and is part of the Feed America program which is the same one that helps stock foodshelves. The Produce Drop is expected to be run the opposite weeks of the Living Bread Pantry. This is a free event and you can find out more about distribution times and more on the Eagle Bend Assembly Facebook page. . . .
