The owners of the Bertha Hospital property, Mr. and Mrs. Emilee Clubb, have offered to donate the hospital to School District 786, provided the following conditions are met by the school: the school provides a certified appraisal of the property, the school provides a statement indicating the school’s acceptance of the gift in the amount of the appraisal, the school pays for all costs associated with the transfer of the property. Apparently, the Clubbs would like to see an appraisal of $300,000. Larry Werder, the superintendent, said, “It is really in pathetic shape. Tiles are all loose, there are mold and mildew all over the walls.” The hospital has been closed since 1989. Werder was given the go-ahead to seek out an appraisal.

The Bertha-Hewitt Bears dominated the Menahga Braves last Friday evening in a 43-13 decision to close out the regular season. In doing so they won the Prairie North Conference Championship and finished the season with a perfect 8-0 record.

October 25, 1945
After serving 28 months overseas, Corporal Donald Franklin, husband of Mrs. Delores Franklin, will soon be on his way home with the returning “Buckeye” Division. Franklin, a member of the 37th Division’s 129th Infantry Regiment, is entitled to wear the Bronze Star Medal, the combat infantryman’s badge, the good conduct medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with two battle stars, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

Todd County will begin its victory bond drive on Monday as announced by Frank L. King, county war bond chairman. He has assigned quotas and the various committee members of the drive in the various communities. The drive will continue through December. The Todd County quota is $498,000. This is by far the smallest amount the county has been called upon to invest in its government.
