Memories Gone By

News from Browerville's Past

25 Years Ago May 11, 1995 The Browerville Fire Department proudly showed off the new fire hall on Saturday at the grand opening of the community center/fire hall. Pictured are Mark Buhl, Bill Buhl, Dan Gaida, Walt Lucas, Smokey the Bear, Steve Beck, Bob Heid, Mike Iten, Dennis Tichy, Tony Strack, Romaine Winkler, Mike Ostrowski, Jim Jonkowski and Lee Ackerson. ********** Good pitching on both sides, few errors and pretty good defense made for an exciting game on May 2. The Tigers defeated the Rebels 5-6. Jerene Carlson pitched all seven innings giving up three walks, two strikeouts, 10 hits and five runs. Coach Petermeier said “Jodie Taggart and Jerene threw the best games I have seen each of them throw. They only walked six people between them. Timely hitting of both teams kept the game close.”

75 Years Ago May 12, 1945 Two Browerville men are receiving their initial Naval Indoctrination at the U.S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. Their recruit training consists of instruction in seamanship, military drill and general naval procedure. When their recruit training is completed, these men will receive a period of leave. They are Willian Zigan, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Zigan, and Leo Steinmetz, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Steinmetz. ********** Miss Lorraine Spandl was an honored guest at a bridal shower given by her friends at the church parlors of Zion Lutheran in Little Elk on May 5. The room had been decorated for the occasion with pink, blue and white streamers. The bride-to-be received many lovely gifts.
