Railroad work temporarily closes intersections

by Trinity Gruenberg

The intersections of Southwest Brown Street and South Farwell Street on Highway 10 were temporarily closed on July 28 and 29 for Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) crews to replace railroad ties and update the intersections.

One of the intersections was completed in one day, keeping the other open for traffic. Train traffic also continued as they passed through the area slowly on the opposite track.

Approximately 120 feet of railroad ties were replaced and a tamping machine followed to pack the rocks around the track to make it level so it wouldn’t shift under the weight of the trains.

The crew also removed the surrounding asphalt and replaced it. This was part of their scheduled, routine maintenance.
