News from Eagle Bend's Past

25 Years Ago March 25, 1995

The Eagle Bend and Clarissa rescue squads, along with Bertha Ambulance workers, carried Eagle Bend Police Chief Jim Minion from the site of his auto accident. Minion was on his way to a car crash when the incident occurred. Minion was south of Eagle Bend on County Road 3 when he attempted to pass a slow moving vehicle when his pickup hit slush and he lost control. The pickup spun sideways and slid into a northbound pickup driven by Keith Gabler of Eagle Bend. Minion was taken to the Wadena hospital where he was treated for a broken rib, cuts and bruises, Gabler was transported to Long Prairie Hospital by private vehicle for minor injuries The first accident was on County Road 14, about three miles west of the County Road 3 intersection. A van driven by Scott Christenson of Eagle Bend left the road and rolled. Christenson and his passenger Sonja Christenson were transported to the hospital in Alexandria by Browerville Ambulance. They were both treated and released. 50 Years Ago March 26, 1970 Long before the stirring news of the first successful heart transplant flashed around the world, members of a University of Minnesota research team were engaged in designing a heart pump that promises to benefit thousands of patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Kenneth Keller, Richard Goldstein and Frank Dorman are principle investigators on the research team. Frank Dorman, a 1953 graduate of Eagle Bend High School, is the son of Mrs. Lilly Dorman and the late Frank Dorman. ********** Voters of Eagle Bend School District number 790 will be called upon to decide one of the most crucial issues of recent years at a special school election on March 31. Voters will be weighing several issues before casting their ballots. Among them will be the additional tax burden which they will assume if accepting consolidation. Also, what adverse affects consolidation would have on the relatively healthy tax atmosphere the school community now enjoys in relation to that of the neighboring community.
