Several area military personnel have recently returned from a trip to the Republic of Guatemala in Central America. They were in Guatemala from April 7-22 as volunteers of the Joint Task Force Timberwolf. Among them were Bill Bradlich, a former Eagle Bend resident and high school teacher, Nick Johnson and Arlen Johnson of Eagle Bend. The three members are from the Minnesota National Guard Company C, 142nd Engineers Battalion, Camp Ripley.
The Eagle Valley softball season came to an end last Tuesday in the sub-section semi-finals. The Rebels lost to a very fine Minnewaska team 14-4. On Monday, the Rebels advanced to the Tuesday game with a 15-6 victory over the Browerville Tigers. The season ended with a record of 5-10 on the year. Jodie Taggart pitched her final game for the Rebels. Jodie has pitched five straight years as the starting pitcher. She allowed 12 hits and three walks to a strong Minnewaska team.

The PTA scholarship committee met recently and designated two recipients of the 1970 scholarships which are $50 each. They are Randall Taber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Taber, and Pat Lorentz, daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Michael Lorentz.
Warren Pommier, an honor student of the class of 1970 of Eagle Bend High School, was the fifth recipient of the Ronnie Nelson Memorial Award and Scholarship. The award was given by High School Principal Richard R. Hansen during graduation exercises.
