Brandy Dougherty of Eagle Bend is among 72 new members who joined the Honors Program at Bemidji State University this fall. Dougherty is a freshman who is undecided on a major field of study. The program schedule extends beyond liberal education requirements with a curriculum that provides opportunities for academically talented students to meet scholastic challenges at the university level.
On January 13, the Rebels wrestling team traveled to Brooten to wrestle in the Brooten-Belgrade-Elrosa Jaguars Invitational. The Rebels placed sixth with three wrestlers making the finals. Stacy Riedel was the only champion.

Senior Kathy Decker, on the basis of her score in the homemaking knowledge and attitude test taken by senior girls is Eagle Bend’s 1970 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow.
January is proving to be the busiest month in quite some time for the Eagle Bend Volunteer Fire Department, which has thus far answered three fire calls, all of a serious nature. Since January 1 fire in which Mrs. Gus Messenger perished, the Russell Wells farm where the barn and a large quantity of hay and straw were destroyed, and the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Schroeder, where an electrical receptacle started a fire in the basement of the home.
