25 Years Ago

August 9, 1995

Guy Greene was the assistant director of the Minnesota Golf Association in 1983 when a course called Double Eagle was opened. Warren Rebholz, the executive director, sent Greene and his helpers northwest to Todd County to give this new track an official rating. These days, Greene is running Fantasy Golf Midwest—a golf version of baseball’s fantasy camps, except with current stars.

Lily Ahrens was among the relatives at the Mike Ahrens home on Saturday evening to celebrate his daughter Katie and his mother Ardy’s birthdays. Everette and Myran Johnson of Clarissa were in to visit his sister Evelyn on Saturday evening.


50 Years Ago

August 6, 1970

Three Todd County 4-H girls will model their winning garments and learn more about the fashion and clothing world during the Minnesota State Fair 4-H dress revue. Selected to the Court of Honor from the junior and advanced groups are: Jean Anderson, Sod Busters; Susan Minke, Greenwood; LaRue Larson, Peppy Peppers; in the beginner group, Lori Denny, Golden Valley, from the apron group.

News Publisher Lester F. Hayenga who is a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis was admitted to emergency surgery for the amputation of his right leg. The surgery was necessitated due to the bacterial infection for which he has been receiving treatment. He had undergone vascular surgery to implant or re-route the veins on July 13.
