The Osakis Silverstreaks put a damper on the Rebels Homecoming week as they defeated Eagle Valley 18-6 last Friday night. The Rebels gave up 18 points during a six-minute stretch in the first and second quarter that was too much to overcome.

The Rebels junior high came up big this past week when they took on the undefeated Silverstreaks and won by a score of 32-8. The Rebels moved the ball quickly down the field as the offensive line blew the defense off the line of scrimmage. The drive was halted, however, when their first pass of the night was underthrown and intercepted.

Some folks are wondering if the greenish-white squash on display at Irv’s Food Market this week is one for the “Jolly Green Giant”. The answer is no. It is one raised by Nels Braaten of rural Eagle Bend. Despite the extremely dry growing season this year, Mr. Braaten raised a squash that topped the scale at 85 3/4 pounds. The white squash is a Hungarian Mammoth variety. He weighed it at the Land O’ Lakes Feed Store. It is believed it will be on display for all to see for some time or until someone wonders if it tastes good.

The Produce Service Station at Eagle Bend ceased operation on Wednesday of last week, September 30, according to an announcement made by Elmer Beireis, secretary of the board of directors of the parent organization, the Eagle Valley Cooperative Oil Association.
