A new event was held at the Verndale School to share information about different types of trade jobs that are in demand.

Tools for Schools was formed a couple of years ago by members of the Mid Minnesota Builders Association (MMBA).

They have several trade groups come into the schools and speak with kids about employment options available after students graduate from high school.

“We focus primarily on careers in the trades, like electricians, plumbers, carpenters, linesmen, draftsmen and several other trades,” explained Colleen Faacks, executive officer of MMBA.

They cover 15 area schools and visit three every year. This was their first time hosting the event at the Verndale School.

The event was held on January 16 for approximately 30 students in grades 9-12 who were interested in the trades. The students watched a video that showed examples of what a person in the trades career might expect to earn hourly and annually.

They had 11 business owners and employees on hand to speak to students. They included: Advantage Seamless Gutters, Allegiance Project Services/Kuepers, Baratto Brothers Construction, Neumann Construction, Nor-Son Custom Builders, Northland Construction, Peila Windows and Doors, SCR, Stonemark Land Surveying, Superior Mechanical and The Design Team. Groups of students spent about seven minutes per table learning about each business. . . .
