Verndale City Council: COVID-19 Business Assistance Program discussed
by Trinity Gruenberg
The Verndale City Council held its regular meeting on September 14.
Approved the business assistance program application guidelines. Businesses that apply and qualify can receive up to $5000. They have to be within city limits. Businesses will have to prove financial hardship due to COVID-19 restrictions and show a 30 percent reduction in revenues from March 1-June 30 compared to the prior year’s sales at that time. Funding is broken down into four tiers, with tier one taking priority for businesses mandated to be closed for 90 days due to the governor’s executive orders, tier two for businesses mandated to be closed for 30 days, tier three for businesses who were partially open and tier four for businesses who could remain fully operational.
Funds can be used for lease or mortgage payments, payroll, inventory losses, working capital, and utilities.
Applications will be mailed to all Verndale businesses. They can also be picked up at city hall. Applications are due by October 9. . .
