Verndale School Board: Edin receives 20-year service award

The Verndale School Board held its regular meeting on February 3.
MSBA Leadership Conference
Board members reviewed the sessions they attended at the Minnesota School Board Association Conference (MSBA).
Shyla Hess attended a workshop on vaping that included a panel of local doctors, a public health nurse and a representative from the American Lung Association. Also a workshop on mental health and morning exercise to promote mental health.
Chris Youngbauer attended a round table on bid laws and rating the bids on a point system instead of taking the lowest bid. Another was on the school board’s responsibility for student and employee investigations if there is an incident and how it has to be done as a board and not as an individual. As well as the school boards control on extra curricular activities including travel and financial aspects.
Tony Stanley went to sessions about students involved in police intervention, seeing if their students are hitting the target before graduating and shop safety. Marcus Edin was recognized for 20 years of service on the school board.
The committee reviewed the wellness policy and discussed the strengths and what needs improvement.
Nutritional strengths included the salad bar, water filling stations, access to hand sanitizer, no vending machine and afternoon snacks. . . .
