by Trinity Gruenberg
The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on January 21.
Citizens Voice Concerns on
Citizens addressed the board during the five minute open forum as this topic was not on the agenda. Citizen Brad Snyder shared his concerns about refugees in the U.S.
“We’re not against immigration. We like legal immigration,” said Snyder.
He said it would be a financial burden on the county adding Wadena County is one of the poorest counties in the state with a high rate of welfare.
“There’s enough poverty in the United States. And there’s millions we could be helping and we should help those Americans that are already here instead of allowing more refugees,” said Snyder.
He discussed the poverty in cities such as St. Cloud and St. Paul. In his opinion the health screening process for refugees just isn’t good enough. Snyder was concerned for the community and future generations and was concerned about what was happening. Others in the audience agreed with Snyder.
Citizen Jerry Grewing said Minnesota has one of the highest immigration rates in the U.S. He believes Minnesota is being hit hard with immigration and believes it’s starting to destroy America. . . .
