Wadena County Commissioners: Fairboard hopes to start enduro races in July
by Trinity Gruenberg
The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on June 15.
Kylene Lehmann discussed the enduro races at the Wadena County Fairgrounds on behalf of the fairboard.
They are working on signage and modifications to comply with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) guidelines. They plan to begin July 12 and reschedule the June race for August or September.
They have communicated with other race tracks that are open to see what they have done to comply such as having a separate entrance and exit point. They will post notices at the track as well as suggestions for attendees to enjoy a safe experience.
Commissioner Jon Kangas added as long as they are complying with guidelines, that would be adequate.
Lehmann added that she is concerned about the July 12 date as that is before the county’s emergency order expires.
They can submit a plan to the commissioners.
County Attorney Kyra Ladd said their insurance will not cover liability while an executive order is in place. She asked who will be monitoring so that everything will be in compliance?
Ladd received information from public health explaining the 250 person maximum for a gathering is for weddings and funerals, not social events such as an enduro. They will need assurance from the property owner to ensure all steps were taken to prevent liability issues. . . .
