The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on November 5 at the Wadena County Courthouse.

Ordinance 6

A public hearing was held on Ordinance 6 regulating large assemblies in the county.

Mark Bjerke and Trinity Junes discussed the proposed changes to the ordinance with the commissioners as they are planning to host a music festival.

Junes questioned the part of the ordinance that stated the event had to be fenced in. The ordinance states “A fence or barrier (sufficient to prevent ingress and exit except at established gates) completely enclosing the proposed location of the event or show and any adjacent vendors.” The language is part of the updated version of the ordinance.

Junes explained at any other concert venue it is the concert bowl and vendors that are fenced in, not the entire location.

Bjerke said they are planning to have this event on private property that is landlocked by neighbors to prevent people from sneaking in. The property is Junes’. Bjerke, who worked for WeFest for many years, said the campgrounds will be monitored. The campgrounds were not fenced in at WeFest.

The commissioners agreed to clarify the language to say the performance or assembly area of the event and adjacent vendors are to be fenced in. They will also add language to specify that this does not pertain to events inside incorporated municipalities.

The commissioners approved the ordinance with the changes effective January 1, 2020. . . .
