Wadena County Commissioners: Solid waste improvements, bridge repair, ordinance review

by Trinity Gruenberg

The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on October 10.

Prairie Lakes Municipal Solid Waste Amendment

Solid Waste Director Chris McConn explained the budget was reviewed in August and part of the project is their capital improvement five-year plan with a projected $2 million in improvements.

The estimate is $450,000 to do a major refractory on the north and south units. This hasn’t been done since it was built in the late 1980s. The refractory is the concrete lining in the boiler chamber.

The interest rates are attractive and there could be more inflation in the next five years. The Prairie Lakes Board agreed to borrow the money and do these improvements in the next two years and bond to pay for it over the next 10 years. The bond would be paid for through the tipping fees. . .
