Feeling safer in our schools... Browerville School District plans for "what if"

How does a school plan for the “what if” a school shooting takes place?

Perhaps the first and foremost question is: can we really make our schools a safe place? 

School districts around the United States have been asking this question for several years.

The recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida has brought about a wave of reaction to the issue of school safety including proposed legislation (see separate article) on guns.

Browerville School District Superintendent Scott Vedbraaten said that they are constantly looking at school safety and ways to make the school a safer place for students and staff.

“We are not being reactive. We had been looking at upgrades to our security before the incident in Florida,” said Vedbraaten.

As part of their previously planned remodeling at the school, new entrance door protocols are being set up. . .
