A Matter of Perspective

If you have ever been in a hospital bed, have you noticed that you feel “weaker?” I think those beds have some kind of “sedative” in them that makes you feel tired and weak.

I’m writing this while I sit in a hospital room waiting for my dad to have an angiogram.

He looks tired and weak.

He’s been having chest pains and the doctors want to make sure everything is okay with his heart.

According to an article on the Society of Vascular Surgery website written by Dr. Luke K. Marone, “an angiogram is an X-ray procedure that can be both diagnostic and therapeutic. It is considered the gold standard for evaluating blockages in the arterial system. An angiogram detects blockages using X-rays taken during the injection of a contrast agent (iodine dye). The procedure provides information that helps your vascular surgeon determine your best treatment options.

Angiograms are typically performed while you are sedated. The procedure may last 15-20 minutes or up to several hours, depending on how difficult the test is and how much treatment is given.”

The procedure starts with a needle being put into the femoral (groin) artery. After threading some lines through it, they can look at nearly every part of the artery system. They will be checking out his kidney arteries, too.

One of the nurses said that all “roads lead to Rome” as far as the femoral artery leading to all the places in the body that they will check along the way.

Something like this reminds me of how wonderfully our bodies are made. Everything works together (except when it doesn’t, but it is designed to).

I am convinced that the creator—God—is very talented. I mean, to make our bodies in such a way that they work at all is a miracle, but to have such intricate details with a use for everything, that is just amazing.

When things are working right and all the parts of us are working in sync, it is an amazing thing. When the systems start to break down, that’s when bad things start to happen to us.

I believe that much of our health problems are the result of improper nutrition. We take supplements and herbs and pills to treat diseases or lack of nutrients. Our food has been processed to the point that it resembles plastic more than it does food.

I see ways to reverse a lot of these problems, but we have to be willing to take a stand and stop buying all the processed junk that currently fills most people’s cupboards!

But, I digress...my dad is having his procedure done now and I am waiting anxiously with my mom. But I am thinking about ways that my family and I could eat healthier. I can’t stop thinking about that.

Addendum: My dad’s angiogram turned out fine—no blockages. He will be following up with his regular doctor to find out if the problem could be with his stomach.
