February 11, 1998

Eagle Valley Accelerated Reader High Point earners for the month of January were: Rachel Wagner, grade three and All School; Ashley Engen, grade four; Kevin Johnson, grade five; Bethany Sales, grade six; Jayme Godding, grade one and All School; Joseph Harren, grade two; Travis Cook, All School; Tayler Luneman, All School and Jason Runge, All School.

The February 3 meeting of the Todd County Commissioners covered purchasing computers, a new squad car, and rethinking action on a bridge in Birchdale Township and County Ditch 19. Ron Bussman and several others urged the board not to remove the bridge on Prairie Creek on CSAH 2, Birchdale Township. Bussman presented a second petition of those who were opposed to its removal. “With the first petition of about 90 signers, this one brings the total to nearly 200 who don’t want the bridge removed,” he said. Bussman and others asked the board to rescind the resolution they’d passed that approved the engineer’s recommendation.


50 Years Ago

February 8, 1973

Winners at the wrestling tourney which was held at Browerville last Saturday: displaying their ribbons and trophy were: LeRoy Morrow, third place; Coach Dean Bennett; Floyd Thompson, second place winner; Tim Peterson, third place winner; Harold DeBlieck, conference champion and Roger Lehman, third place winner. The team as a whole captured fourth place.

An Eagle Bend girl is dead and her companion is in critical condition at the Bertha Memorial Hospital after they were found by two men in their parked car at about 11 a.m. Saturday morning. The car was discovered on a county road about four miles southwest of Eagle Bend. Teresa Wells, 20, daughter of Russel Wells of Eagle Bend and Mrs. Donald Mueller of Long Prairie, was dead at the scene and Eugene Schauer of Long Prairie, 25, driver of the car, was immediately taken by one of the men to the hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
