25 Years Ago

November 15, 1995

Alyssa LaVoie of Clarissa participated on Saturday, October 28, in the District 7 “Make It Yourself with Wool” competition held at Long Prairie. Alyssa sewed a jacket and a pair of pants for her entry. The purpose of the contest was to focus attention on the beauty and versatility of wool.

Checking out the women’s entries for the Todd County Fair, one noticed a familiar name, Ethel Pooler, on many of the exhibits. Later we learned she had 31 different entries! Entries included cookies, pies, apricot bread, muffins, doilies, a crocheted afghan quilt, embroidered dish towels, and other handmade treasures.


50 Years Ago

November 12, 1970

Kenneth Helgeson, general manager of the Eagle Valley Co-op Oil Association, was re-elected as the director and subsequently as secretary-treasurer of the Minnesota Association of Cooperatives at its 25th annual meeting at the Radisson Hotel in Minneapolis.

At the present time, Clarissa and the surrounding community will not get cable TV. According to Telesis Corporation, there are not enough patrons in the village and the surrounding area to hook up.
