At 10:30 p.m. on Sunday night, the Bertha Fire Department responded to a fire at Bertha Frozen Foods. Soon after, the Eagle Bend Fire Department was called to the scene to supply a pumper and manpower. Flames had reached the roof by the time the Eagle Bend Fire Department arrived. Firefighters from Clarissa and Hewitt also worked to get the blaze under control. People clustered in the streets on the sidewalks in front of Schultz Drug, Orrinās Hardware and the Corner Market to watch the flames eat up Bertha Frozen Foods and the vacant building where Sandyās Gift Shop used to be located. Owner Jerry Dahms suited up for the fire. They were able to save the Bertha Museum, Bertha City Hall and the Municipal Liquor Store. The fire marshal speculated the cause of the fire may have been faulty compressor wiring.

From the school notes: We would suggest that if candidates want votes from teachers they should not distribute literature by airplane during school hours. Last Monday, a plane flew over, dropping leaflets and our whole ninth grade gawked out of the window until the last one fell to earth. It seemed a long time and caused much disturbance. A point was made in not voting for the candidate. The fact he was a Democrat had nothing to do with the vote.
