January 12, 1995

Newly elected State Representative Ken Otremba (DFL-Long Prairie) was sworn in on January 3, soon after the House of Representative convened for the 1995 legislative session. The session is expected to last until May. He was named vice-chair of a committee that will play a key role in welfare reform and the state’s new health care program.

Tom Brown, wrestling at 112 pounds, won his match 16-8 against Justin Smith of Sauk Centre on Thursday at Browerville. Wrestling at 135 pounds, Ryan Hiebert started up strong and was up eight points, but came up short losing 9-10 to Paul Ahrens of Sauk Centre.

The new Todd County Sheriff, Dave Kircher, took the oath of office at the County Commissioners meeting in Long Prairie. County Attorney Charles Rasmussen also was sworn into his new office. The oath was administered by Court Administrator Gerald Wollner.

Former Sheriff David Asmus reported that his department responded to 2356 complaints during 1994. That was up from 2004 in 1993.
