February 16, 1995

The Todd County American Dairy Association held its annual meeting and banquet Monday, January 30, at the Clarissa Ballroom. Current board members are: Bruce Paskewitz, chairperson, Browerville; Bill Berscheit, vice chair, Grey Eagle; Robert Bromeling, secretary, Bertha; Larry Mellgren, treasurer, Long Prairie; Glenn Thompson, Clarissa; and Doug Ward, Browerville, delegates. Alternate delegates are Allen Blommel, Clarissa and Kathy Smieja, Cushing.


This year’s winner of the National Geography Bee at Christ the King School was Tonya Kolles, daughter of Bernie and Linda Kolles. Runner-up was fourth grader Amanda Smieja, daughter of Kathy Smieja.

75 Years Ago

February 17, 1945

Browerville’s three schools, St. Joseph’s and St. Peter’s parochial schools and the public school were closed on Thursday for the remainder of the week due to a severe snowstorm that swooped down on this section of Minnesota early Thursday morning.


On January 31, Kenneth Hegarty, a junior in the local high school, journeyed to Bemidji as a representative of the Golden Gloves District Four Boxing elimination contest. There he was selected winner over Walter Moll, better known as the “Alexandria Kid.” Browerville’s young boxer, Kenneth Hegarty, will represent District Four in Minneapolis at the boxing tournament to be held February 12-19.
