Minnesota schools to close by Wednesday, March 18

According to a press conference held on Sunday, March 15 at 10 a.m. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced temporary school closures and long-term planning amid the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak.

The school closures are to be in place by Wednesday, March 18. All schools will be closed for students, but staff will be at the school preparing plans for distance learning if needed.

They will have time to develop an equitable access learning plan at the local level. Each district will take the time to develop these plans.

This is to give teacher-teams time see what elementary e-learning will look like. They will take time to inventory what sources and resources families have for e-learning.

It was emphasized that these closings are for planning, not because any outbreak has been found in any school.

Daycares are encouraged to remain open to provide childcare. Also, schools will provide daycare for EMTs and other medical personnel as well as law enforcement.
