by Trinity Gruenberg
Craig Orlando was recognized by the Vikings on December 8 as he was selected to the 2019 Vikings All-State Football team.
The team is comprised of senior student athletes from all classifications of football in the state. Team members have been selected annually since 2002 and it is done in conjunction with the Minnesota Football Coaches Association.
Coach Mike Mahlen received two letters from the Vikings, including one from Head Coach Mike Zimmer that explained Craig was one of 32 players selected in the state for this recognition.
The 18-year-old Verndale senior was selected by a committee made up of sportswriters, broadcasters, Vikings staff and high school football coaches for his outstanding season.
He has played many positions in football including defensive line, running back, kicker, punter, line backer and wide receiver. His favorite part about his football career has been playing with his team and having fun.
Orlando was given two tickets to the December 8 game against the Detroit Lions where he was recognized on the field with the other students selected, all in their football jerseys, and was given a custom Vikings football with his name on it. He took his brother Ethan as his plus one. . . .
