25 Years Ago April 5, 1995 Residents of Parkers Prairie were awakened by a loud explosion that shook the town about 1:17 a.m. on Sunday morning. The liquid propane gas explosion leveled the city fire hall and damaged several neighboring buildings, probably beyond repair. Charges are pending against a 16-year-old juvenile for tampering with a gas line. Nobody was injured in the accident. ********** The Eagle Valley School Board received word on Monday that their choice for new superintendent of schools accepted their offer. Dale Svaren and his family visited the Eagle Valley School last Friday. He will begin his new position in mid-June.
50 Years Ago January 8, 1970 Tim Greene, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Harris Greene, was named as the 1970 Boys State representative from Eagle Bend. Selected as alternate was Lore Smith, son of Dr. and Mrs. E.H. Smith. ********** Kevin Harris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donn Harris of Eagle Bend, was a winner in the Primary Division of the State Final Contest sponsored by the Minnesota Music Teacher’s Association. Jonathon Hanson, son of Pastor and Mrs. Hanson of Clarissa, won in Intermediate B; and Nancy Kuehne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Kuehne of Clarissa, was a winner in the Senior A Division.
